Respiratory Diagnostics

Respiratory Diagnostics Service

Heartbeat Primary Care CIC deliver the Respiratory Diagnostic service on behalf of Hambleton & Richmondshire PCN’s.

The service is delivered from two sites currently, Mowbray House Surgery, Northallerton (Wednesdays and Thursdays) and Harewood Medical Practice, Catterick (Wednesdays).

We deliver diagnostic testing, specifically FeNO testing and Spirometry testing.

FeNO  (Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide) testing is a non-invasive test that measures the level of nitric oxide in your breath to check for inflammation in your lungs, which is often related to asthma. The higher level of nitric oxide indicates more inflammation. The result from the test aids in the diagnosis and management of asthma.

Spirometry testing is a non-invasive test that measures the amount and speed of air that you can breathe in and out. This test is used in the diagnosis and monitoring of asthma and COPD measuring airflow and lung volumes.

This service is accessed by a referral from your GP practice where the clinician you have recently spoken to may wish to rule out asthma or COPD. Once the referral has been made by your surgery, the Respiratory Diagnostics team will contact you to arrange your appointment. At the appointment you will undertake one of the above-mentioned diagnostic tests.

Once we have seen you at your appointment the results will be recorded in your medical record by your clinician and forward to your GP surgery who will discuss the next steps with you.
